Think the most painful moment was in a collaboration where I needed to come to grips with letting go of what wasn't possible, but really give what I had and know that it was enough to take it forward. And I remember we were in New York with Erica Badu, and you know, she's got her swagger and she's got her, you know, she's full of it. She's full of
Energy. No, she is something, she is something quite unusual because she has this strong ability to hear every, I mean, she hears everything. And so when she corrects, she's also very direct because she wants to hear something that's very obvious to her. And at that point, I really wasn't hearing what she wanted. And, you know, I needed to just understand.
Understand that what she wanted to say wasn't to me, it was for me. And so I had to change the way in which I was receiving instruction. And it taught me so much about. And I say to my daughter often, you know, Miss Bertha, it isn't about what you're being corrected about, it's about the why of that correction. And I must say, that collaboration and that tour with her as guest impacted so much about me not thinking, oh, I'm going to go home and get this right and then come back.
And show that I've got it together. No, sometimes in life, you're going to be asked to learn and be okay with being corrected in a public way, but understand that whatever is being asked of you is to get something to you. And I left there learning so much about being humble and being able to be a team player in the sense that I needed to get it right for the team, even if it meant that I needed to sort out something that was very painful and a bit embarrassing because you think that, oh my word, I should have known this.
But it had such a long road impact upon how I approached so much after that. So that was a personally, it was a very exciting and remarkable experience. But I took so much more about the aspect of correction and mentorship and understanding that if you're not open to grow, you're really going to receive not necessarily the fruit of what that seed is for in the first place. Do you know what I'm saying? I do.
