The project. A multidisciplinary operation has led to the arrest of 11 suspects following a planned operation which targeted illegal mining activities in Balfour's Door near Stilfontaine. The arrests took place on Thursday and comprised of various departments, including the Department of Home Affairs and the South African National Defense Force. The suspects were found with a number of items such as generators and explosives. Warrant Officer Nkosina Tinlova says: The accused individuals will appear.
At the Stilfontein Magistrates Court on Monday, their arrest follows a planned disruptive operation targeting illegal mining activities in Puffel Stuart near Stilfonte. A multidisciplinary team proceeded to an identified mining site. Upon arrival, they allegedly found 11 suspects with mining equipment, including wheelbarrows, generators, cell phones, explosives, water pumps, and gold bearing material estimated to the value of $80.
The accused were subsequently arrested and were charged with illegal mining, possession of cult bearing material, and the contravention of immigration act.
