Friday's talk radio was dominated by the fallout from the anti-migrant protests, with President Ramaphosa deploying 3,000+ soldiers even as Malawian nationals remained stranded at the closed Durban drive-in site. Jacob Zuma's meeting with fugitive Gupta brother AJ Gupta in India drew condemnation across stations, while the Constitutional Court's Tafelberg ruling handed activists a landmark housing victory. The Madlanga Commission's revelations about crime intelligence deputy Feroz Khan added a darker undercurrent to the week.

SANDF deployed as migrant protest fallout spreads
The migrant-protest story dominated across 702, Cape Talk, SAfm and Power FM. Ramaphosa approved the deployment of more than 3,000 SANDF members across all provinces at a cost of 54 million rand, running until the end of July, on top of the 600 million rand SAPS budget. Stations tracked ongoing marches through the Joburg CBD, looting in Marian Hill, and sporadic Gauteng flare-ups including Dalvel in Germiston where protesters forced their way into homes. Ramaphosa, speaking from the DRC, insisted South Africa had a duty to protect the rights of all people on the continent while enforcing immigration law.

Zuma's India visit to the Guptas triggers diplomatic crisis
Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni warned former president Jacob Zuma that his state privileges could be withdrawn after he visited fugitive Ajay Gupta in India, calling the trip a disgraceful act that undermined foreign policy. Scrutiny quickly turned to High Commissioner Anil Sooklal, with the DA's Ryan Smith telling parliament's international relations committee that Sooklal had received written instructions from Dirco to formally receive Zuma and Gupta, demanding heads must roll. Dirko spokesperson Chrispin Phiri told Cape Talk the department was not aware of Zuma's trip in advance.

ConCourt Tafelberg ruling reshapes inner-city housing
The Constitutional Court's unanimous ruling that the Western Cape government's 2015 sale of the Tafelberg school site in Sea Point was unconstitutional led coverage on 702, Cape Talk and SAfm. The province has three months to submit affordable housing plans, with the court insisting location must be treated as central to redressing apartheid spatial injustice. Ndifuna Ukwazi hailed it as a victory for working-class Sea Point residents and said the judgment sets a national precedent that public land is not a commodity to be sold to the highest bidder. Human Settlements Minister Thembi Simelane welcomed the ruling.

Madlanga Commission exposes Khan-Mazzotti tobacco network
The Madlanga Commission proceeded in the absence of suspended crime intelligence deputy Major General Feroz Khan, who remains heavily sedated after Sunday's assassination attempt. Evidence leader Advocate Adila Hassim laid out WhatsApp chats and affidavits alleging Khan and businessman Mohammed Saeed worked with cartel figure Adriano Mazzotti's Carnilinx to stage bogus illegal-cigarette busts against competitors, funnel COVID-era mask contracts and share sensitive SARS documents for cash. SAfm's Madlanga Wrap connected the dots to the late Lieutenant General Sindile Mfazi, deepening questions about how far the alleged capture of policing reached.

Springboks and Bafana: a big sporting weekend takes shape
Sports desks across 702, Cape Talk, Power FM and SAfm built up to a packed weekend. The Springboks open their Nations Championship campaign against England at Ellis Park on Saturday at 17:40, with Cape Talk noting ticket sales have been surprisingly slow and the stadium set for a name change. The Junior Boks stayed unbeaten at the under-20 championship after physically dominating hosts Georgia 33-5. At the FIFA World Cup, Bafana's Blue Sharks have reached the knockouts unbeaten, while Egypt received a boost with Mo Salah declared fit. Formula One's sprint weekend at Silverstone rounded off the card.
