Do you stream the radio audio?
No. We never re-broadcast upstream audio to end-users. We index transcripts, expose search and chat over them, and let you render short fair-dealing clips on demand.
How long can a clip be?
Clips are short fair-dealing excerpts — long enough to carry the moment. Each is watermarked with a one-second station-identification sting that names the station, show, date and timecode. Anything longer needs the station's permission.
Which stations and podcasts are indexed?
Live radio: 702, Cape Talk, SAfm and Power FM, with more stations joining. Podcasts: a curated, growing list of SA shows — Moneyweb@Midday and Bruce Whitfield's Business Week so far. English-language only at v1; Afrikaans and Bantu-language are on v2.
How accurate are the transcripts?
We transcribe English-language speech with whisper.cpp (base.en), tuned for South African names and places with a biasing prompt and a correction dictionary for the usual offenders (Eskom, Phala Phala, and the like). Every chunk carries a confidence score, and low-confidence or music-only windows are filtered out rather than published.
Where does my data live? POPIA?
Your data lives on Supabase (Postgres database, authentication, and clip storage), and our transcription workers run in Fly's Johannesburg region. We treat user accounts and search history under POPIA. Full DPA on request.
How fast does a mention land?
From spoken-on-air to searchable: typically under 60 seconds. Standing alerts are swept every few minutes, so a matching mention lands in your inbox minutes after it airs.
