   The 46th SADC Heads of State Summit dominated Saturday's talk radio, with SAfm, Cape Talk, 702 and Power FM all running Ramaphosa's public lecture at UKZN as their lead. The President unveiled Vision 2050 and urged regional leaders to tackle conflict, governance failure and poverty as the root causes of forced migration, saying the region should be one where people move by choice, not desperation. Stations also flagged Durban road closures, Malawi's George Chambonda taking the politics and security chair, and debate over how SADC could finally implement its free-movement protocol.

   ConCourt halts Shell's Wild Coast oil and gas exploration

   The Constitutional Court's decision to set aside Shell and Impact Africa's right to explore for oil and gas off the Wild Coast was hailed across bulletins as a landmark win for Eastern Cape coastal communities. SAfm, Cape Talk and 702 all quoted Natural Justice's Melissa Groening, who said the judgment recognised the deep spiritual, cultural and livelihood connection communities have with the ocean, and made ecological protection inseparable from dignity rights. Lawyers for the communities said Shell and Impact Africa must now go back to the drawing board if they want to pursue exploration in the area.

   High Court rebuke of Manamela over NSFAS administrator

   The Pretoria High Court's suspension of Professor Hlengani Matebula as NSFAS administrator, and the reinstatement of the dissolved board, drove sharp commentary on Cape Talk and 702. Watchdog OUTA said the ruling exposed a failure of leadership and renewed calls for Ramaphosa to reconsider Buti Manamela's higher education portfolio, arguing the minister had been warned as early as January about board vacancies. The Portfolio Committee also raised concerns about irregular, unapproved payments the administrator made to his advisors. SAfm carried a counter-view defending Manamela's earlier NSFAS reforms on turnaround times and appeals.

   Fifth arrest in Umgeni DA councillor Ndlovu murder

   The KZN Political Killings Task Team's arrest of a 44-year-old suspect in Bhopomeni — the fifth in the murder of Umgeni DA councillor Ndlayenza Ndlovu — ran on repeat across SAfm, Cape Talk, 702 and Power FM. Ndlovu was gunned down at his home in 2023 in front of his wife and children. Alleged mastermind Chief Simphiwe Zuma remains in custody after two failed bail bids, while a hitman and coordinator have pleaded guilty, with proceedings due to be finalised in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court next Friday. Police vowed to pursue every remaining lead.

   Chiefs versus Sundowns headlines a big sporting Saturday

   Power FM's sports desk led on the Betway Premiership showdown between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium, with defender Inacio Miguel insisting Amakhosi fear no one despite Sundowns' league dominance. The banter spilled onto SAfm's talkback lines, where a Durban caller cheekily predicted Sundowns would beat Chiefs and threw in a Blue Bulls prediction for good measure. Power Sports also previewed an 18-year-old's daunting Loftus debut, framing a weekend where football and rugby jostled for airtime alongside the SADC and NSFAS headlines.
