Boxing champion Zolani Tete gunned down in Mdantsane
The murder of former IBF and WBO bantamweight world champion Zolani Tete led bulletins across SAfm, Cape Talk, Power FM and 702 throughout the day. The 38-year-old was ambushed by two balaclava-clad gunmen outside his Mdantsane home on Friday night, with a female passenger also wounded. By late afternoon police had apprehended two persons of interest, aged 30 and 22, in KwaZakhele following an intelligence-driven operation. Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane called it senseless, noting Tete had been preparing a comeback after a doping ban. Stations framed it as the province losing one of its finest sporting sons.
