702, Sunday morning

Just settle. Absolutely. It is just the two of us. You know, I actually quickly went to Shazam this song. I'm like, what words are these? But the melody is exactly the same. And I was listening, I'm like, what is she saying? She's not singing the dust, the two of us. And I quickly went to go Shazam it. No, true. She copied it. Thank you very much for your WhatsApp voice note. Here's what's interesting to me. So one article was saying, what needs

What needs to happen now, or what needs to be proven, is that so firstly, this song has been streamed a bunch of times. Just the Two of Us has, I mean, it's been streamed almost a billion times, which is fine. This song has also been streamed a number of times. But I was reading an article that says that to prove plagiarism, Mattie Music Group would have to prove that Dean and her co-writers had previously heard Withers' original composition.

Who hasn't heard just the two of us? Even Will Smith song of it in a song with the song. What do you mean? No, I think this is going to be a no-brainer. They're probably going to settle out of court. What is interesting is that the Bill Withers Estate is not suing Olivia Dean and the composers of the song. They are suing the company. And the reason for that is because ultimately the company should have acquired the clearances to allow that song to be released. And so the companies will probably deal.

With Olivia Dean and her co-songwriters after the fact. But actually, the person who's contravened the rights in this instance is the record company who didn't do their due diligence. It's gone down. Dr. Leal, always a great pleasure chatting to you. Thank you. Thank you so much for your time. Yeah, and enjoy just the two of us, the OG version. Sheldon Leal, who's a musicologist, academic start at the Academy of Sound Engineering. Here is a touch of Bill Withers' Just the Two of Us.
