The state over 1.6 billion rand following his corruption conviction. Speaking to our senior producer Ronald Perry, Agritzi argues the multi-billion rand figure represents Busasa's total correctional services contract turnover rather than personal funds that he received as an employee. The interesting thing is, you know, this is what's strange to me: is obviously I did my own papers and that, and I didn't have legal assistance. I don't qualify for legal aid.

In South Africa. I didn't get any legal assistance. I had to do everything myself. And the state originally went with 1.6, but then they changed it at the last minute. They changed it to 50-odd million. And then we argued off that. So we never expected them to go back to 1.6 billion. I mean, and quite simply, I mean, 1.6 billion translates to the value of the total contracts that were awarded to Busasa, of which I wasn't a shareholder.

The Watsons were the only shareholders, not to nobody else but the Watsons. And the benefit went to them, not to me. And besides, I don't have 1.6 billion rand to chart because I never earned that. I was an employee. I wasn't a director. I wasn't a shareholder. The question I have is: why has nothing happened? Asking the question: how come nothing's happened to the politicians? How come nothing's happened to the directors? Those are the beneficiaries. Why has nothing happened? So you're saying this 1.6 billion rand is actually Bosasa's contract turnover and not money that you received personally? Ronald, if I'd received 1.6 billion rand, you wouldn't be talking to me right now on the phone. I would be somewhere in the Maldives or in the Cayman Islands.

Running away from the law, I sure as heck wouldn't have opened up. I refused a 50 million rand bribe not to go to the Zondo Commission, but I definitely at 1.6 billion rand. Um, I don't know if I'd be around, definitely don't have that kind of money. So, what would you say is the correct figure that you actually owe to the state? 2.7 million rand is the benefits they say I received. That is what they say.
