702, Wednesday night

And I find that it opens many doors. In fact, one of my teachers in high school said to me, That mouth of yours is going to get you places. It's only in hindsight that I think to myself, she had a point. And it's not because I have the world's vastest vocabulary. I just say the words correctly. I say them slowly. I'll tell you what it does, just talking to you right now. Right. And I.

Consider myself an educated communicator, is that it gives the sense that you're talking to somebody serious who's taking the effort, who's taken the time and made the effort to respect you enough to speak to you in a considered way, even in their annunciation, pronunciation, diction, all of that stuff, right?

You immediately, maybe without necessarily being conscious of it, you immediately get pulled into this world of: I'm talking to somebody who's serious here. This person is serious, and whatever he says to me is going to be credible. And to what extent do you think that that ability has stood you in good stead in your

Career. Every single interview, I hope the guys who sat in my interviews aren't listening, but every single interview would not have gone as well as it did if it wasn't for my ability to speak the English language well. It's just a fact. Did you get a little bit of derision perhaps from other spaces at home, relatives who said to you that why?

Why do you talk like that? No, no, no, I get it. Keep in mind that I'm that kid who was born on the dusty seats of Shandima in Venda. I left Venda at a pretty young age. I think I was two when we left Venda for Welkom, first mine town. When you get home and you're the city boy, but you've got a more colloquial accent, it's okay. But when you get home,

And you speak your home language with a connection with you. Yeah. Oh, you get it. Oh, you get it. Yeah, I can imagine. I can imagine that that is also very painful. It is. You feel left out. Yeah. You want to belong because you can speak the language. Yes. But you speak it with a strange accent. You speak it in such a way that you can feel that glass wall between you and the other kids. Did you feel like people were thinking that you were being pretentious? Yeah.
