702, Thursday morning

Control center after a computer failure. So initially, it was a digital problem, but then maybe a human error crept in after that. Is that what happened? Witnesses have described terrible scenes, extreme chaos and distress beyond words. As with any train crash, it is generally just awful. And I'd imagine the suffering of the families concerned. It's a real, real horror story. Let's move on from that, Adam.

Crimes linking Ghana to the USA. Be careful of global dating sites. Absolutely that. Yes. And of course, it doesn't always look like a global dating site. It just looks like somebody being friendly on social media or being friendly on a dating site and swiping in the appropriate direction. Usually, right. But this particular scam targeted elderly people in particular, so over 60s generally. They started off targeting people in Ohio.

And then moved on to 23 other American states. And sometimes word spreads: oh, look, I've found myself a lovely man, blah, blah, blah. And suddenly social media comes alive. They then moved on and started targeting people. As they moved on, they sat where they were at a computer that moved on and targeted people in Germany and Austria. So the twins, Jamal and Kamal Abu Bakari from Ghana and Amanda Opoko Boachi from Hawaii, they got together. They lured their victims into believing that they were in a romantic relationship.

And that's how it begins. And then suddenly, oh, could I have a bit of money, please? Could you give me a hand with this? And it's not even as obvious as that, is it? It sort of just trickled in, and large sums of money were indeed transferred to bank accounts in Ghana. Not everyone they target falls for it, but enough did that they recouped something like $9 million. They had a load of luxury goods that were confiscated in the course of the arrests. The FBI tracked them down. There were other arrests in Ghana and a scam set.

Was closed down in Ghana, but the FBI made the arrests on home turf. And it is that thing, isn't it? That you don't always know what you're subscribing to online. And it tells us about the epidemic of loneliness, ultimately, does it not, Adam Gilchrist? Yeah, yeah. I mean, from it's been horror stories mostly this morning, has it not? These passengers are stuck on a luxury cruise. Oh, my word. Yeah, and they were stuck before.
