Cape Talk, Tuesday morning

And with the local government elections just a day away, Mangaung's intermodal transport facility has become a symbol of municipal failure as it's fallen flat on its promise. More than a decade after it was built, the facility remains largely unoccupied, vandalized, and deteriorating. This while the taxi operators it was meant to serve continue running their business outside, exposed to the elements. Demokatsule Shoro has more. Mangaung's head of planning, Lokotula Cha.

Kane has admitted the municipality is left with what she describes as a white elephant. The criticism, of course, is deserved on our side because clearly now we are stuck with what we call a white elephant. The facility was designed to integrate taxis, trains, long-distance buses, and commercial activities, a modern transport hub that was supposed to transform commuting in Bluefentin. Instead, taxi operators at the Ibupeng taxi rank have refused to move in. Operator Tembama Baso said.

The facility was poorly planned. To go in and out takes about an hour and 30 minutes. That time, cars are still running and there are fumes. How do they expect people to breathe? There's no ventilation. Chicane says the facility will require more public money to repair the damage and address the flaws. We need to do that comprehensive technical assessment of the facility so that we are able to put a figure out how much is needed. What one operator told EWN the building has been vandalized by.

Young people known as Mapara. It's too far gone. Things like cables have been stolen. These kids who sleep here have emptied this building. Despite this failure, Mabaso says when it comes to elections, he would rather stick with the leaders he knows. The new people start from scratch to eat. Maybe these ones have eaten. They're satisfied the new ones will come empty stomachs. Eyewitness news.
