SAfm, Friday afternoon

Needs to have a system where there can be accountability. All we've said is: just like every other profession, there must be a peer review mechanism. There must be a space where people are registered, people are monitored, and most importantly, people are vetted. If you are a religious leader, obviously.

You'll be working with children. And if you are going to be working with children in this country, the children's acts are very clear. You have to go through a vetting process. The challenge is: we don't know who is a religious leader in this country, especially those that are independent. We don't know where the churches in this country are. I always say in this case, what is even making the system worse is that if he had been lucky enough to get bail, he would have gone back to his church. No one can suspend him, no one can do anything.

In this country, you can have, we've got cases running where people, religious leaders go to are alleged to have committed a crime, they go to court, they get bail, the next day they are climbing the pulpit. Unless you are under some umbrella organization or a big church like the Anglican church we saw in Petermarisbeck, where the Reverend
