702, Thursday morning

The World View with Adam Gilchrist. Adam Gilchrist, we were talking about a shark attack on our shores just, I think, this week, a little earlier this week. This one in Mexico proved deadly. Yeah, again, after the death of Janine Lochrenberg, yeah, as you say, this would have hit home in South Africa, all right? But this is in Mexico. The tale of 27 people stranded in shark-infested waters when their boat capsized. Essentially, their boat went down, about 250 kilometers.

Kilometers out from Ensenada in the Pacific. So we're near the area known as Baja, California. Not California itself, but Baja, California. All 27 on board, Mexican. We don't know what they were there for: fishing, tourism, smuggling, it is that kind of area. Without casting aspersions, of course. The Coast Guard was alerted, so they put out the May Day as the boat went down. But search and rescue didn't arrive for 90 minutes. And during that time, as they hung on to floating debris, etc.,

Sharks began circling and then attacking, and the survivors tell us that there were certainly great white sharks and bull sharks. It's an area of the Pacific where there are known 62 species of shark who live there essentially. And they began to pick them off one by one. So 11 people are missing, presumed drowned, possibly eaten, possibly both. 16 people were rescued, but many of them with bite wounds consistent with shark attack.

Horrendous, worst nightmare, absolutely. Yeah, I mean, it definitely puts a different spin to those migrant boats we see in many parts of the world. Let's skip across now to Europe, Adam, and tell me about the rescue of a wounded Ukrainian soldier. Yeah, the Ukrainian military releasing footage of this. They say it's the world's first drone airlift of a wounded soldier from the front line. So, this is a Ukrainian unit called the 92nd Assault Program.
