Cape Talk, Thursday night

Coded revelations about not just for the drug burst that we have seen from Nigeria's drug law agency, which is the NDLEA, in terms of the kind of drugs they call colos and the likes that they burst and imported synthetic drugs that they that lots that have been in the circulation for lots of years now. But what became alarming is that since 2016, the NDLA.

LA, when they first reported the, I think, a meth lab somewhere, they called in VGC or so. They called it a super lab. This was like a decade ago. And since then, there've been one or two birds that made the headlines. But this year, earlier this year, we had two major ones: one in May and sometime later outside Lagos in Ogun State and on your state, precisely southwest Nigeria. We had what they described as the biggest meth lab.

In West Africa, was burst where even they had to go, the courts had to go there for what they called an arranged court hearing because the level of evidence after three Mexicans and about seven Nigerians were arrested, it really shocked a lot of people to Damaro that the scale of the tons of raw materials to produce methamphetamine in Nigeria's home soil is being cooked, so to speak.

Here. So that really clearly points to the scale of how this methamphetamine or drug problem, Nigeria is battling, particularly the Nigeria's drug law agency is battling and are sensitizing the public that it's no longer a thing of the past or here so watching movies. It's actually happening here in Nigeria. Even myself personally, reporting on that news about the biggest meth lab drug bust was shocking even to my family that.

Such, you know, because then again, it goes to a question: how far in terms of the consumption, if production is now here in Nigeria. Right. What was the latest one you reported? And can you tell us a bit about that? What was discovered? Yes. So in Oyster in Ogun State, what they discovered in terms of the tons, more than two tons of drug worth, and it was about $360 million worth.

Of the drugs, the method was found in that burst, which they described as the biggest drug burst. And according to the authorities, it was in collaboration with US-led intelligence and US drug agencies, which led Nigeria's drug agency to find and intercept and arrest the people who were alleged to be linked with it: seven Nigerians and three Mexicans. And that was in May this year. So that is the most important thing.

Most latest and most biggest. Right. Thank you so much, Olisa, for those updates. Dr. Dottun, we understand from the Africa Center for Strategic Studies that global cocaine production has currently jumped to roughly four times higher than what existed about a decade ago. What do you think is happening? Thank you very much, Ajua. Before I answer your question, let me give you a chronology of what Olisa had said.
