Power FM, Thursday morning

If there is a way of simplifying how it is that we ended up here, could you just give us a summary of how we've ended up in this situation? Certainly. The water polo players in the country felt that Swimming South Africa was not paying enough attention to the sport of water polo in terms of development, investments in leagues and tournaments, coaches, officials. There was no real tangible investment from Swimming South Africa in the sport. And we felt the sport was dying.

So they wouldn't allow us to take control under their umbrella of these things and start putting our own money, our own private money and funding into doing their work for them. They wouldn't allow it. So we formed a separate body. We had elections. We started running leagues and stuff. We now have over 2,400 members. They have got less than 60. We've got 47 clubs registered with us. They've got none. And we run the leagues across all the provinces in the country and they don't run us.

Single league or tournament. So effectively, the sport is being run by South Africa Waterpolo now. And Swimming South Africa is not running any de facto day-to-day running of water polo at all. So that's where we are right now. Those numbers, though, they are disputed, are they not? I mean, the numbers that you've just shared in terms of registered players and that sort of thing. And also, I mean, our players, all players of water polo in the country actually.

Registered because if that were the case, why would there be a dispute about those numbers? And I'm saying that because Alan Fritz, who's the president of Swimming South Africa, told Parliament in 2025 that they have never had more than 130 water polar players registered. No, so I don't understand where the dispute would come, Titi. I mean, I can give you the telephone numbers, ID numbers, dates of birth, names, full names of our 2400 members. And as you said, Mr. Fritz in Parliament to.

Agreed, they've never had more than one 130. We have 2,400. And we have an associate, Schools Water Polo South Africa, it's one of our associates, it's the school system. They've got more than 20,000 water polar players. They used to be associated with Swimming South Africa. They've broken that association and they've associated with us. So we are now working together for pathways for athletes, etc. So there 20,000 school children in the system and 2,500 club members.

In our system. And there's no dispute in my mind. And we could ask them to verify their numbers. And my executives on the board of Swimming South Africa have told me that there are now less than 60 members in their registered books. I can't verify that number for sure, but that's what I've been told by executive members independently within the Swimming South Africa structures. If the feeling is that, I mean, as your assertion is that Swimming South Africa has failed the sport of water polo,
