Callers said moving in with partners, family or friends exposes hygiene habits, money issues, boundaries and whether someone actually values your space; several said they now prefer living alone.

One listener asked for an in-law and her son to be moved out after repeated conflict, saying the pair made home life unbearable and drove the couple out of the house on weekends.

Momentum’s Faria Adams said retirement savings should first secure life expenses, with living costs and inheritance only considered after that; she warned many retirees underestimate how long income must last.

Adams said the average Momentum retiree has about R2 million, which at a 5% drawdown works out to roughly R8,300 a month before tax, making a hybrid annuity a way to balance certainty and flexibility.

RMI representatives said women now make up about 95,000 of the automotive workforce, roughly 30%, with growing numbers in apprenticeships, mechanics, diagnostics and business ownership.
