Shadrack Sibiya's bail refusal dominated the morning, with the magistrate's reasons on threats, flight risk and medical care unpacked across all three hours of the show.
- 09:00
Former Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya was denied bail at the Randburg Magistrates Court, which found he failed to prove he would not interfere with the case. He remains in custody until 24 November.
- 09:01
The magistrate found Sibiya had threatened the father of the 16-year-old he is accused of grooming, despite the defence's claim that no threats were made. She said his friends' intimidation of witnesses was independent of him.
- 09:14
The defence argued Sibiya needed bail because he is on chronic medication. The magistrate rejected this, saying the prison hospital can provide the essential medical care he needs.
- 09:17
The magistrate was convinced Sibiya may try to evade trial given his age, chronic illness and the seriousness of the charges. She also found the 16-year-old is vulnerable and could be influenced by him if released.
