Gauteng removed 60 minibus taxis from the road in a week-long blitz; officials said many had faulty brakes, worn tyres, defective lights and even structural defects, with some operators also arrested for trying to bribe officers.

The province still has about 174 approved operating licences uncollected, down from 400, and drivers were urged to collect licences immediately after a backlog clearance campaign that has already handed over more than 3,000 licences.

A dietitian said shoppers should ignore front-of-pack marketing and check the ingredients list plus the nutrition panel per 100g, because claims like “low fat” and “no added sugar” can still hide high sugar or sodium levels.
