President Ramaphosa ordered a 60-day national case-recovery operation for unresolved murders, attempted murders, rapes and serious sexual offences involving women and children, with recovery plans due within 90 days.

Government will launch women’s safety audits in every municipality, identifying hazards such as broken streetlights, unsafe transport routes and abandoned buildings, with urgent fixes or funded plans due within 90 days.

Ramaphosa said police have found no evidence that one perpetrator committed the 11 women’s killings in Ekurhuleni; arrests have been made in several cases and other persons of interest identified.

Independent economist John Luce said a temporary fuel-levy cut could save consumers around R5 billion to R6 billion, but Treasury may avoid setting an ongoing relief precedent.

Estate duty applies at 20% above the R3.5 million threshold, while estates above R30 million face 25% on the excess; capital gains tax can add a further burden.
