Soulful Sunday ran as a listener-driven love-song set, with repeated greetings, birthday shout-outs and requests from across South Africa and as far as São Paulo, while the presenter stayed on air until 5pm.

Jazz and Beyond used Women’s Month to spotlight South African and international women in jazz, including Sylvia Mdhlulu, Dorothy Masuka, Chantal Willie Petersen and Emily Maseka, with commentary on their albums, scholarship and influence.

The programme’s old-soul-versus-new-sound battle centred on two versions of a South African classic: Busim Shango’s stripped-back 1999 ‘Urban Zulu’ recording and Naledi’s newer arrangement, with listeners split but the older version favoured.
