Cape Town’s revised travel demand management plan will favour public transport, carpooling and high-occupancy lanes; congestion charging is not imminent, but tougher parking rules and enforcement are on the table.

The Table Bay Hotel has reopened under InterContinental after a billion-rand refurbishment, with the interior completely transformed while keeping the landmark building’s Cape Town heritage intact.

Jonathan Jansen’s book on Cherry High says the turnaround came from restoring basic school functioning, tightening discipline, raising matric results from the 30s to the 80s in 24 months, and treating the children with care.

Jansen’s stark takeaway was that “the kids are not the problem”; he argued schools can improve through connection, good teaching and showing up, and said every South African school will get a free copy of the book.

A lighter segment on “Brotox” found rising demand from men, with a Cape Town aesthetics doctor saying bookings have climbed from a few a month to five to ten a week, mainly for a refreshed, less-stressed look.
