South Africa’s proposed vehicle-safety rules would require at least four airbags, including two curtain airbags, electronic stability control and stronger side-impact protection in light passenger vehicles.

The new safety standards are in public participation until the end of September, with implementation expected from about June next year after parliamentary approval and a six-month grace period.
