DBSA and the US International Development Finance Corporation reached financial close on a US$786 million Lobito Corridor rail package to reopen a 1,300-kilometre link from Angola’s port of Lobito into the DRC and Zambia.

The corridor is meant to move cobalt, copper and passengers faster to export markets, cut truck traffic and emissions, and lift intra-African trade, which sits at about 12% of the continent’s total.

Nedbank said first-half headline earnings were flat overall, but grew 12% excluding ETI; advances rose 7.8% in corporate banking, 6% in commercial, deposits were up 7%, and impairments rose to 95 basis points.
