Retired SAPS Captain Ashley Houston testified at the Madlanga Commission that he was the first respondent to the 1 April 2023 shooting at a Morningside flat, linking his evidence to the deaths of five young men.

Suspended EMPD Deputy Chief Brigadier Jules Mkwanazi and five other officers are facing murder, robbery and defeating-the-ends-of-justice charges over Emmanuel Mbenze’s killing, with the state opposing bail and alleging witness interference.
