The ANC promised six local-government actions, including affordable basic services, infrastructure expansion, job creation, credible municipal finances, professional leadership and stronger accountability, with a 100-day turnaround target.

Critics challenged the ANC’s credibility, citing persistent water failures, weak municipal oversight and corruption; Corruption Watch reported systemic state capture and called for detailed anti-corruption action beyond promises of meritocracy.

The new GBVF council held its inaugural meeting and must produce a costed action plan within six months; it has an initial R45 million allocation, rising to R47 million next year.

Arts advocates said disabled performers must be recognised as professional artists across the full ecosystem, from auditions and venues to backstage access, rather than treated as inspirational entertainment or special projects.

The National Arts Council acknowledged access barriers and a limited R1 million emergency fund shared across seven disciplines, while promising tighter verification that funded projects pay disabled artists properly.
