Day-two counting was dominated by the DA's strong showing and the ANC's likely loss of control in key metros, with coalition talks starting and Zuma-Sambudla's case set to proceed.

  1. 09:02

The DA is leading in four metros, Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Nelson Mandela Bay, and is set to govern Cape Town outright, with vote counting at 72 percent.

  2. 09:14

An analyst says the ANC is likely to lose outright control of the three most powerful metros, Tshwane, Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni, after a disastrous result that repeats earlier promises of renewal.

  3. 09:03

The DA projects that almost two-thirds of municipalities will head into coalitions, and says it will approach talks with other parties with great respect, though discussions so far are informal.

  4. 11:06

The Durban High Court dismissed Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla's application to have terrorism-related charges withdrawn, so the case against her will proceed.

  5. 11:43

Voter turnout improved to around 51 to 52 percent from about 45 percent last time, with the IEC targeting young voters, though analyst Terry Tsilane says it is still not significant.
