SAFM celebrated 90 years on air, tracing its roots back to the 1936 English service and Radio South Africa, and tying its history to apartheid, Mandela’s release and democracy.

The strongest recurring message was that SAFM remains a trusted national voice, with congratulations from universities, unions, civic leaders and broadcasters praising its news, education and public dialogue.

A Women’s Month campaign was announced: from 1 August, SAFM will search for an “SAFM woman” through four women’s journeys under the theme “Women, a New Voice. 90 Years of Conversation.”

The clearest topical interview warned that digital sextortion is driven by fear, shame and reputational harm, and that AI has sharply increased the scale and sophistication of the crime.
