Teacher vacancies sparked a lively public debate, but the Madlanga Commission’s evidence on alleged police killings and corruption dominated the morning.

The Basic Education Department says more than 27,000 teaching posts are vacant, with a 7% national vacancy rate and the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng worst affected.
