Joburg Child Welfare warned South Africa’s Tier 2 watch-list status on trafficking exposes serious gaps in child protection, especially undocumented and abandoned children who are easy to exploit.

Abu Bakr Hattis said trafficking follows vulnerability and profit: underreported cases, family displacement, GBV, online recruitment scams and exploitation in sex work and drugs all feed the problem.

Fix Forward is launching a nine-month circular cement youth programme for 100 entrepreneurs in four provinces, using industrial waste to replace up to 50% of cement and cut brick-making costs.
