Clinical psychologist Angela Day said couples must establish a strong “we”, agree boundaries privately and present a united position, with the son or daughter addressing their own family.

Healthy boundaries should be clear, respectful, specific and enforceable; consequences can progress from reduced or structured contact to no contact where abuse, threats or serious violations persist.
