Economist Babu Dumakubule said South Africa’s unemployment rate is 43.8%, with 13.1 million people unemployed and youth unemployment at 57.3%, calling the crisis a failure of growth.

Dumakubule argued that public investment is the clearest route to growth and jobs, saying infrastructure spending has collapsed while government’s promised 3% growth target lacks a credible plan.

Two women appeared in the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court over Jabulile Ndimba’s murder; a third suspect remains uncharged, and the case is being investigated separately from other Ekurhuleni killings.
