A remembrance walk retraced Uinena Nemhoikiana’s route from Ross Common to UCT, nearly seven years after her rape and murder at the Clermont post office, to keep her memory alive and push safer communities for women and girls.

Her mother, Nomangwa Nemhoikiana, said the foundation continues these walks to raise awareness about gender-based violence and femicide, and to “psycho-educate” the public that the crisis is still ongoing in South Africa.

The ANC first said it would unveil mayoral candidates for eight metros and 44 districts, then later backtracked and said the names would only be announced in September after vetting; the manifesto launch still goes ahead in Deep Sloot.

BOSA announced Fotsuane Mathamushika as its Tshwane mayoral candidate, with Musi Maimane saying the party wants a woman who can improve the city and deliver better services ahead of the November local government elections.
