Gregory Loftus told the Madlanga Commission he believes his son Bevan was killed “in cold blood”, insisting the killing was a planned execution, not a shootout, and linking it to police involvement in KZN.

Loftus said Bevan was warned a court order would be served, went to Johannesburg to buy quantum minibuses, and was dead within minutes of a phone call reporting gunshots at the flat in Morningside, Durban.

The commission heard that police at the scene were told there had been a shooting, then a domestic issue; Loftus said officers later found five bodies inside and described the scene as one of the worst he had seen.

Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula’s defence said it will apply for her discharge under section 174 after the state closed its corruption and money-laundering case; the matter was postponed to 20 August.
