Edith Piaf’s “Hymne à l’amour” was traced to the death of her lover Marcel Cerdan in a 1949 plane crash; Piaf wrote the lyrics in one night, and the song became a vow of grief and devotion.

“La Vie en rose” was framed as Piaf’s quieter plea for love after years of illness, written with Charles Dumont and Michel Rivgauche, recorded with a small orchestra to capture her breaths and intimacy.

Amy Jephta’s A Good House at the Market Theatre was highlighted as a witty social satire about a couple, gated-community belonging, land, the housing crisis, transformation and racism; it runs from 6 to 30 August.

Nancy Wilson’s “On the Street Where You Live” was presented as a 1962 Hollywood Ballad session cut that turns a Broadway song into a tender jazz-pop memory piece, with Billy May’s lush but restrained arrangement.
