Madlanga Commission hears of KZN police 'extrajudicial killings' and task team commander living beyond his means
IPID Deputy Director of Investigations Len John's testimony dominated news bulletins across SAfm, 702, Cape Talk and Power. He told the Madlanga Commission that IPID is investigating more than 300 cases in KZN in which task teams killed close to 500 people, with no evidence of SAPS members being shot at first in the overwhelming majority. John also detailed how roughly R2.3 million flowed into the accounts of Cash-in-Transit task team leader Lieutenant Colonel Dina Govender and his wife, including nearly R500,000 in cash paid to conveyancing attorneys for a property purchase.
