   Nearly every talk station led with the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where IPID Deputy Director Len John testified that rogue SAPS task teams in KwaZulu-Natal operate as hit squads, using lethal force on raw intelligence without dockets or court orders. Attention then shifted to the 2023 killing of tow truck operator Bevan Loftus, with his father Gregory telling the commission his son knew Captain Dina Govender allegedly wanted him dead, and that a 2.5 million rand hit had been placed.    ConCourt blocks impeachment committee appeal on Phala Phala

   The Constitutional Court refused Parliament's Section 89 impeachment committee and the ATM direct leave to appeal the Western Cape High Court interdict that halted public hearings into President Ramaphosa over the Phala Phala theft of roughly 580,000 US dollars. Committee chair Makashule Gana told stations the committee has noted the ruling and will keep working on terms of reference while the review plays out. The MK Party said the outcome reinforces public perceptions that the system is reluctant to hold leaders accountable, a line picked up across 702, SAfm and Power FM.

   Mkhwanazi bail bid in Ekurhuleni businessman murder case

   Suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and five co-accused, including law enforcement officers, appeared in the Brakpan Magistrates' Court for a bail application in the 2022 kidnapping and murder of businessman Emmanuel Mbenze, whose body was found in a Duduza dam. Through advocate Peter Wilkins, Mkhwanazi denied any involvement and claimed lead IPID investigator Nomsa Masuku had approached him to turn Section 204 state witness in exchange for charges being dropped. The state is opposing bail on all six accused, with the matter framed as Schedule 6.

   CPUT withdraws 2027 financial recovery plan after week of violent protests

   After a week of violent student protests over historical debt, a new admissions fee and the draft financial recovery plan, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology council held a special sitting and resolved to withdraw the 2027 recovery plan. Buildings were set alight at Bellville and District 6, a security vehicle was torched at Wellington, and a security guard remained in ICU. Spokesperson Lauren Kansley told Cape Talk calm appeared restored after management responded to a second SRC memorandum, though disruptions had continued for hours afterwards.

   Banyana Banyana face Nigeria in do-or-die 2027 World Cup qualifier

   Sports desks across Power FM, SAfm and 702 previewed Banyana Banyana's crunch WAFCON clash against the Super Falcons, with the winner advancing to the preliminary round of the inter-confederation playoffs for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. Coach Gabriela Salgado Mudali's side went in knowing there was no room for error against a historically dominant Nigerian opponent. Talk shows framed it as a must-win, with build-up also touching on the weekend's Kaizer Chiefs versus Mamelodi Sundowns showpiece, for which stadium management confirmed more than 32,000 tickets already sold.
