Shadrack Sibiya's bail hearing in Randberg dominated the day. Nearly every newsroom carried the recordings and affidavits played in court, and the Madlanga Commission was drawn into the story by evening. Court action also ran through the political news, from the ANC's ballot fight at the Constitutional Court to the challenge over Ramaphosa's impeachment evidence leader. In sport, stations covered the Proteas' defeat at Kingsmead and Formula One's confirmation that it will return to Africa, in Rwanda rather than South Africa.

  1. Sibiya bail hearing: threats, recordings and a Madlanga Commission response

Former deputy national police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya's bail hearing led bulletins across Cape Talk, SAfm, Power FM, 702, Kaya 959 and 947. A day after resigning, he heard prosecutors read the 16-year-old's father's affidavit, which claims Sibiya threatened to wipe out his family. A recording of socialite Serge Kabonge also aired, linking Sibiya to Vusimuzi Cat Matlala and claiming ties to a commission official. The Madlanga Commission said it will take Kabonge's statement. SAPS is treating the resignation as a dishonourable discharge. The hearing was postponed to Wednesday.

  2. ANC fights at the Constitutional Court to get excluded candidates back on the ballot

Election-season legal battles featured across SAfm, Cape Talk, Power FM and 702. The ANC asked the Constitutional Court to let 181 excluded candidates stand. It insisted it had followed the required steps even though it never clicked the final submit button for six municipalities. For the DA, advocate Michael Bishop warned that a ruling in the ANC's favour would oblige the IEC to treat dozens of other parties and more than 2,000 candidates equally, complicating ballot preparations. Judgment was reserved. Separately, the DA challenged single-name PR lists from ActionSA, the EFF, MK and Good in the Electoral Court.

  3. EFF challenges impeachment committee's U-turn on Madonsela

Power FM, SAfm, 702 and Cape Talk covered the EFF and the African Legal Professionals Association in the Western Cape High Court. Both are seeking to overturn the impeachment committee's decision to withdraw its recommendation of advocate Thuli Madonsela as evidence leader in the Phala Phala inquiry. The committee recommended her in August but reversed course in September after President Ramaphosa raised conflict-of-interest concerns. The applicants argue no material facts changed and that the decision was irrational and in bad faith. Committee chair Makashule Gana says it acted within the rules and will oppose the case.

  4. Proteas crushed by Australia in first Test at Kingsmead

Morning sport desks on Cape Talk, Power FM and 702 had hoped for a Du Plessis-and-De Villiers-style rearguard, with the Proteas resuming on 102 for four. Instead, South Africa were bowled out for 206 chasing a record 421, and Australia won by 214 runs to lead the series 1-0. Josh Hazlewood took six for 49. Matt Renshaw was named player of the match after scoring more than 250 runs and taking two wickets. On SAfm, commentators still praised a contest that kept all three results possible until lunch on day five.

  5. Formula One returns to Africa, with Rwanda as host

Formula One confirmed a 10-year deal for an African Grand Prix in Rwanda from the early 2030s, and the news spread across SAfm, 702, 947, Kaya 959 and Cape Talk. Races will be held at a new Bugesera circuit about 40 kilometres south of Kigali, the sport's first race on the continent since the 1993 South African Grand Prix. President Paul Kagame hailed a historic moment. On air, several voices congratulated Rwanda. Others argued South Africa must fix its own problems first, and one presenter said he was relieved the country was not footing the bill.
