Elizabeth Musala Khomu’s family positively identified her body after she disappeared while running; police are investigating five women’s deaths around Kempton Park and Olifantsfontein.

Police have not confirmed a serial killer or linked all five deaths, saying specialists are consolidating evidence and examining possible connections while one suspect remains in custody.

Forensic psychologist Barry Fulion said serial killing requires at least two victims in separate events, a cooling-off period and intrinsic motivation; investigators are examining victims, locations and behavioural signatures.

Basic Education Minister Sibiwe Guakube said the R1.6-billion foundation-phase textbook tender remains suspended, not cancelled, citing serious process weaknesses and potential financial misconduct while legal advice is awaited.
