South Africa’s unemployment rate rose to 33.6% in the second quarter, with 345,000 more people unemployed and the total jobless count reaching 8.5 million.

Fourteen suspected illegal miners were found dead at an abandoned mine near Rustenburg, with several others injured and police still trying to establish exactly what happened.
