Infrastructure South Africa’s Adopt a Municipality pilot targets four smaller councils, preparing 28 projects—eight this year—for funding and implementation with technical support from government, business and UK specialists.

Government reported 81 strategic infrastructure projects worth R1.9 trillion, with 37 projects worth R69 billion completed in 18 months and 82 worth over R502 billion under construction.

Deputy Minister Sikhle Zikalala said regulatory approvals are being coordinated through one office, while energy, water and logistics will receive priority because they unlock wider investment.

CPUT academic Clive Brown said repeated student protests leave lecturers carrying invisible operational and emotional labour, while damaged infrastructure and disrupted teaching can affect students’ professional competence for years.

Consumers were advised to treat loyalty points as money: compare prices, avoid buying unnecessary items for rewards, check data permissions, and choose schemes with simple, usable benefits.
