Women-led business grit dominated the show, from a Cape Town shoe brand’s comeback and Dutch bakery revival to practical tax advice and a tense MasterChef semi-final exit.

That Shoe Lady founder Jessamie Jardim rebuilt her business after a 2022 social-media hijack and bank-account theft, liquidated in early 2023, retrenched 30 staff, then reopened in Sea Point at 182C Main Road.

Jardim said the brand began in 2014 as a hobby importing Doc Martens and Jeffrey Campbell shoes, grew from her parents’ bedroom into physical stores, and later expanded to Biscuit Mill and Sea Point.

Holland Bakery’s Karika Noval said she took over the business in 2020 after Covid, kept production central, then added cafes in Durbanville and near the factory in Kraaifontein to serve fresh Dutch treats.
