The SIU uncovered ghost students, fake qualifications, inflated accommodation invoices and a fictitious rabbit farm at Fort Hare; more than 400 ineligible students were enrolled, while one academic’s payments exceeded R5 million.

Agricultural entrepreneur Cecilia Makato abandoned planned film studies after losing both parents and her brother in 2021, taking over the family farm and its 15 permanent workers.
