   Madlanga Commission clashes over Feroz Khan's medical postponement

   The Madlanga Commission dominated the day across Power FM, Cape Talk, 702 and SAfm, with suspended crime intelligence deputy head Major General Feroz Khan again failing to appear. Evidence leader advocate Adila Hassim pushed back hard against his lawyers' bid to keep his medical condition private, arguing he had placed it before the Commission as the basis for postponement. Retired Hawks head Godfrey Lebeya was also grilled over the 2021 theft of 541kg of cocaine from Port Shepstone Hawks offices. The Commission ultimately postponed Khan's testimony to 28 September.

   Parliament rescinds Madonsela as Ramaphosa impeachment evidence leader

   Parliament's Section 89 impeachment committee backtracked on its recommendation that advocate Thandazani Madonsela lead evidence in the Phala Phala inquiry, voting 18 to 9 to rescind after President Ramaphosa objected. It emerged Madonsela had previously done work for the ANC and Ramaphosa had removed him from the JSC. Chairperson Makhosi Khoza said members have until Friday to submit fresh nominations, with a new shortlist to be considered on 8 September. The Western Cape High Court is separately hearing Ramaphosa's review application to set aside the parliamentary panel report.

   Fuel price hike hits motorists from midnight

   Stations warned listeners repeatedly that both grades of petrol rise by R1.34 a litre from midnight, with diesel up between R2.94 and R3.15 and paraffin and LPG also climbing. SAfm branded it "top-up Tuesday" as inland petrol pushes past R26 a litre, with 95 octane heading toward the R50 mark for a full tank in some cases. The department blamed higher international oil prices, Russian export restrictions and renewed US–Iran tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, alongside a bumped retail margin and higher slate levy.

   Pitso Mosimane returns as Bafana Bafana head coach

   SAFA's confirmation of Pitso "Jingles" Mosimane as Bafana Bafana head coach lit up sports desks on SAfm, Cape Talk and Power FM. Mosimane returns 14 years after his first stint, taking over from Hugo Broos on a contract until 2030, and told the presser the moment was bigger than any single match. He inherits a squad coming off a record-breaking 2026 World Cup campaign and said he was not there to make big changes, with his first games in charge being AFCON 2027 qualifiers later this month.

   Tembisa Hospital corruption arrest and Eskom's return to profit

   The SIU welcomed the arrest of Stefan Govindraju, alleged to head "Syndicate X" which siphoned at least R600 million through 75 companies linked to Tembisa Hospital procurement. He faces 70 counts of fraud, theft, money laundering and corruption after appearing in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on R200,000 bail. In parallel, stations tracked Eskom posting a second consecutive annual profit — R30 billion, more than double last year's R14 billion — driven largely by a 12.74% tariff hike, even as it sold 6.2% less electricity and municipalities owe R16 billion.
