Problem out in Bowward Road in Claremont. Yeah, I was going to say Claremont on the road. Yeah, very popular, very nicely done, and very good for the community. But the guys living right across the road, it was a change from a normal quiet tennis club. So then you say, well, let's enclose it. And that's definitely the way to stop the sound. But then, because it's quite a high roof, you need at least a nine to ten meter high roof so that you can actually lob the ball. Then it becomes quite a big structure. Yeah. And then you potentially block the views of some neighbors. So now you've got.
And schools and then interprovincials and so on. Do we have any schools as far as you know offering paddle as a sport? Yeah, so there's some schools that have land available and they've already built courts. Okay. And I think with the view going, they need to make sure that they offer it as a school. The clubs are the schools that don't have space, which is quite substantial. And I'm just going to name some in Cape Town, let's say, for example, like Sachs or Wynberg or Bishops, or there's lots of them. They don't actually have the land, so therefore, they will tip.
Studio and in an actual garden. It's an extension of our gardening segment into the real life space. And this month we're going to be visiting the Gabriel Road Food Garden, established by Plumstead residents a couple of years ago after they got sick and tired of seeing a vacant plot go to rack and ruin. It was becoming a problem area in the neighborhood, an ISI site, a dumping ground for rubbish, a place where drug use was happening. Residents got together and said, let's change this picture. We'll start a food garden.
Eyewitness News Parliament. A house robber has been killed, and another is under police guard in hospital following a home invasion in the Crawford area in Athlone in Cape Town. The incident happened at nine o'clock last night. The police's Wesley Twiggs says a gunman demanded cash. The victims were tied up. We can confirm that shots were fired, and one suspect was fatally wounded. A suspect who was also wounded was later arrested and is in hospital under police guard. The circumstances surrounding the incident is
Funded mainly by UCT and some businesses. For further confusion, Alma Road, Rosebank, south side of the road, comes under Rondebash Saps and the north side under Mowbray Saps. And Pippa is a near neighbour. She never. Okay, right. Why? Because the dividing line is Daviliers, houses on the northern side. Okay, so there's a kind of separation that does make that kind of
Heard as “Rondebash”Ask loclFollowing a home invasion in the Crawford area in Athlone. The incident happened at 9 o'clock last night. Here's the police as Wesley Twigg. Lennon Police registered the House of Robot Case for investigation following an incident on Wednesday night in Rockerbeare Road, Crawford. According to reports, the victims were at home when unknown suspects entered the house armed with firearms. Twigg says the assailants demanded cash. The victims were tied up. We can confirm that shots were fired and one suspect was fatally wounded.
You must remember that whilst this development in Krombum was happening, at the very same time, 44 sites were sold via auction in Constantia. And all the disadvantaged areas are already densified. Okay? And we are not against socializing, as you said, we can go over that again. But the point is that open the city for all. And we are not saying you're practicing spatial apartheid. We're saying that the Constitutional Court.
Candidates who actually live in the area. The other being Shami Masali of Al-Jama lives in the Sabran Park area. Rashad lives in Rondebosch East. All the rest don't live in Rondebosch East. But I want to talk about the emergence of civic associations, local community groups who are now saying politics shouldn't be left to political parties. Community members, residents, neighbors should start finding their voices.
And that is, you should be only allowed to register where you live, where your residence is. That's it. Simple. Rashad Davids is the chairperson of the Civic Association of Rondebosch East Care. He's contesting Ward 60 as an independent candidate, but he is contesting on behalf of the Rondebosch Civics Association. What's quite interesting in Ward 60, he's only one of two.
My tires twice during the three years I worked. I really enjoy the job, but the driving is taxing on your body and your pockets. Lester, my brother, used to drive 300 kilometers a day, but that was because he had a big area to cover with my father. You can maybe explain just what business you are in. Kashiva says: I drive from Platoklov to Islamia in Lansdowne.
Also, forced to travel. I jop y job. It's you have a business, you have a job. It's on the other side of the city. You make your calculations. Leicester, I worked three years from Plumstead to Paul. I finished working there in July 2026. I filled up once a week. I serviced my car three times a year due to mileage. I did about 850 kilometers or more every week. I replaced
To town. Depends what you drive. Depends what you drive. I drive a little Yahus, so that's light on fuel Aslam spends 160 kilometers a day in a round trip. We're from Plumstead to Paul. 2,000 Rand a week petrol budget. Are you nuts? 021 4460567. It's 17 minutes to 8 o'clock. Cape Talk. Cape Talk. A world view from London.
One way. Loads of people do this commute daily. Earlier, we spoke to Peter John, who is about 140 kilometers in a round trip from Krabo to the CBD to Pardon Island. Aslam, what's your commute? Hi morning, Lester. I travel every day, six days a week, Plumstead to Paul. That's 160k. 160k is returned.

And what to do about it. And then, after news at half past four, a really happy story. There's an abandoned post office building at the Kenilworth station, and two people involved in the children's book world have decided to put a children's bookstore into that building. That's what we should be doing: reimagining space in that creative way. Call us on 021-446-0567. Email john m at cape talk.co.za and watch.
Open, then opened fire on the victims before fleeing the scene. The motive for the killing is unknown, and the investigation continues. Cases of murder, five counts, and attempted murder are being investigated. Police say a 31-year-old man has been shot and killed in Lavender Hill on the Cave Flats. Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg says the incident happened in the morning. The motive behind the attack is unknown, and no arrest.
To the Cape Town station in the dark and taking a train in the dark. Maybe I'm being unnecessarily nervous about this, but no. And if I go into town and then I don't know how late the trains run, but if I arrive at the Cape Town station at nine o'clock for a train to Lakeside, it's not something that I am prepared to do. Anyway, it's four o'clock.
Often, that's often where airlines around the world make most of their profit is on those in-flight snacks. So it's intriguing to me that they're the only ones that have seen that market and are willing to make people pay for it. Dean has just written to me from Constantia, Andrew, to say I recently had to pay for a second check-in bag on an airling flight and nearly fell over when it cost just under a thousand rand because they charge by weight, and that's what I had to pay for a bag that weighed 20 kilograms. This compared to flying.
Janet, we're so grateful to you for joining us on air today. Welcome to the show. Hi, hi, Wendy. Thanks so much. So, Janet, this is Pippa. I understand you bought your white I-20 from Hyundai Plumstead and took delivery back in June 2016. And it was a 2014 model, is that correct? Correct. So, how soon did you first notice the paint start lifting or blistering? I'm sorry to say I don't remember the exact date of the first time it started blistering around the back windscreen.
To Consumer Talk, that this month's Common Ground event is coming up next week. For those who've missed it, these monthly events extend our gardening segment off-air and into real life. They offer Cape Talk listeners a chance to interact with some of our gardening guests and to tap into their expertise one-on-one. This month, we are going to be visiting the Gabriel Road Food Garden, which was established by Plumstead residents who were sick and tired of seeing a local vacant lot being used as a dumping ground.
Other from colonial to apartheid to racist to spatial planning, and now the one oak is talking about Constantia versus Alcis River. It blows my mind that the wealthy people are actually subsidizing the poor people in this city, whether you like it or not. That's the truth. So, why, oh, why, oh, why are they whinging? If you didn't have the wealthy people,
In Constantia, Durbanville, half an hour tops I saw on the group the other day, the truck is there repairing the light. The same services you have to for the same complaint in Mitchellsplain, any other community on the Cape Flats, it's maybe a week or two that you have to wait. So a well run city for who? When we keep on saying that the DA is doing the best and we keep on showcasing and saying that you know what, in comparison to the ANC, near Clarence, we cannot keep doing that comparison.
When these applications reopen. Mike in Newlands is on the line to us. Mike, you want to talk about the fuel price? Hi. Yeah, hi, Jan. I do. You know, many years ago, I had a car, I sold that. Then I bought a motorbike, and as the fuel price went up, I sold that. And I now ride around on a scooter, which costs me an incredible 320 rand to fill this little tank up on this little scooter. And you know, your one caller just said he's not enjoying the country anymore.
It does echo the 2024 MFV Lubuntu disaster. There, 11 fishermen were declared presumed dead after their vessel sank off Hout Bay. Malvin Debrayne is the provincial secretary for Kassatu. We've had now several maritime disasters, maritime workers being affected. What do we know about these workers off Mossel Bay, Malvin? You've been in touch.

And they have turned it into the most extraordinary, thriving community food garden with a weekly market that brings the community together as well. It's a wonderful story of what is possible when people pull together. And it's your turn to experience it for yourself because next Thursday, the 15th of October at 10 a.m., we'll be taking a group of listeners on a guided tour of the garden. It's in Gabriel Road in Plumstead. You'll get to ask questions about what they are growing, how they manage irrigation, fertilization.
Last month, September was Heritage Month, so we were exploring the company's garden. This month, we are taking you to a spot we actually featured in our gardening segment a month or two ago: the Plumstead Food Garden, run by the Gabriel Road Area People's Association. If you were listening at the end of July, you would have heard us talking to their garden manager who explained how the community had come together and turned what was an absolute local eyesaw, a dumping ground, a site that attracted drug use and dumping of rubbish.
For that little bit of history, it puts into context how palliative care and primary care, primary health care, can benefit from somebody that understands it as astutely as Dr. Malumba. Good morning, Clarence, on the topic of medical care issues. I waited five hours at the Lady Michaelis Day Hospital in Plumstead yesterday, and that is just heartbreaking. It's the story of so very many complaints.
This listener needing to get from retreat to Bylands, wanting to park their car at the station, worried about whether the park and ride is safe? 021-446-0567. Drop me a WhatsApp: 072-567-1567. Want to help shape the talk of the town by sharing your take? Oh, yes. With a municipality now increasing my electricity by 64%, because now suddenly the
Station. How reliable is the train except for days that are late? The route is retreat to Pinelands and then Pinelands to retreat. Trains have generally become more reliable. I would suggest, I wouldn't park and ride at retreat station. What I would do is maybe if you're coming from the south, the deep south, Lakeside provides, I think, a bit more safer park and ride, park there.
That gets to stop in between train stations. So they can be a little bit unreliable. Even though they clean, the security is heavy, and like it's a pleasure to ride on these new blue trains, I must admit. But if I could predict that if I leave Cape Town at 4:34, I will get to Ronabosch at 4.48, then I would be certainly more reliant on Metro Rail than I currently am. But I am able to access public transport, which is quite cool. Someone asked me.

And the N2, as well as in Rondebosch, Aclafontaine and Golf Course. I'm Justine Rehnquist, and I'll have more EWN traffic in 15 minutes. There's more EWN on air, online, and on the EWN app. Nodi, sorry, but your question arrived just as I was saying goodbye. To Mark, could cells for photosynthesis be implanted? No idea. Gordon says: is this perhaps an explanation of the experience known as deja vu?
Incision plan after the local government elections. And there's a lot to be discussed around the will it, will it not? Sounds like a little too late. Too little too late, if you ask me. I wasn't going to say it. You said. Let's move it on to the Western Cape. Yeah. Residents in parts of the city and really spread out parts of the city, Woodstock Strand, Grassy Park, and other spaces are facing planned water supply interruptions. That's from today. The city is carrying out maintenance work on the
